An on-going learning process

Introduction

It is an honor and a privilege to be here today with so many important people. Each of them,
from the position of responsibility held, has done their best so that the Panamerican Surety
Association might be maintained, make progress, gather an increasing number of highly
regarded members and be able to offer better services to each of us.
I was honored with the presidency of the Association from 2008 to 2010. These years were
marked by the beginning of an important institutional crisis. But I think we are going back to
the same: crisis brings opportunity. The crisis allowed us to learn a lot together; we learned,
for example, that we have a great institution, we transformed the Association into a much
more institutionalized entity. Because of that, the Association is smoothly following its way of
orderly and disciplined growth, with the aim of providing our members with a forum of great
opportunities where they can always learn and do business.
We have largely focused on education, and education is of paramount importance for the
further growth of each and every of us. I especially want to thank the people who work in
the operating areas of the Association because without them it would have been very difficult
to keep the level we have gained. They really gave their hearts, made a great effort in order that
the PASA could keep on with everything it is presently doing.
